Exciting Changes are Coming

Our parish Religious Education Program is going through some dramatic changes, particularly the Confirmation program. Cathy Gillooly’s recent resignation has prompted us to review our program, assess its strengths and weaknesses and create a new process. We’ve found that only about 7% occasionally join us for Mass and fewer still are active in any form of ministry. So, we’ve come to the conclusion that the classroom model of catechesis for children in Junior High simply does not work. We’ve come up with a vision of a radically new approach which will incorporate the whole parish communion in the spiritual formation of our young people:

Parents and their children will participate in monthly workshops which will include content, prayer and an experiential component.

Every child will commit to putting their God-given strengths into action.

• 1st Level – In the Home

• 2nd level – In the Parish

• 3rd level – In the Community

Each family will have an advocate; one of our engaged parishioners, who will share their faith experience with them and act as a connective instrument with the larger faith community.
