As
you enter the Sanctuary in Our Lady of Grace, the first sound you hear is
that of running water, the water that pours from our Baptismal Font. As
Jesus was baptized, thereby starting his public ministry, we too have the
privilege of starting our life anew; our life in Christ; our life in His
Church, in the very same way; a life in which we try to imitate Christ and
follow His beautiful command to do the same and more for others.
“Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you
always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)
'Holy
Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the
Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through
Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of
God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made
sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through
water and the word."' (Catechism of the Catholic Church -
CCC 1213)
Our Lady of Grace celebrates the Sacrament of Baptism
for infants every Sunday following the noon Mass. Adults (persons older
than 7 years of age) who have not received the Sacrament of Baptism are
afforded the opportunity to receive this most beautiful gift through the
Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
