There is sorrow at the loss of a loved one that nothing can take away. But our hope as Christians is that death does not have the final word. When a disciple of Christ dies, the rites surrounding the funeral focus on Christ and His promise of a new heaven and a new earth, and a reunion with all those whom we have loved. The Funeral Mass is meant to remind us of the Lord’s promise: Those who have lived as disciples of Christ will be gathered together when the Lord returns, to enjoy eternal life in the company of those whom they have loved while on earth. For this we long and pray when we gather for the Eucharist each Sunday, and most especially at the Funeral Mass.
Funeral Masses are commonly arranged through a funeral home. In cases where a funeral home is not involved, please contact the parish office directly – (631) 587-5185.
